Reverse engineering is a solution for many challenging situations. The process takes into consideration what exists, for example a motor or mechanical component, and through analysis determines how to duplicate or enhance that item. Reverse engineering can design improvements on the structure, operation and performance of one specific item, or a system of related parts. Items may be duplicated to match the fit, form and function of an original part without knowledge about the original production process. Using the latest AutoCAD and other computer modeling enhancements, City Machine Technologies, Inc. can solve our customers’ most difficult problems.
In July 2013, CMT was presented with an opportunity to solve a problem for a major steel company through reverse engineering. A number of special material handling arms were failing in a pipe mill operation. The customer was faced with a long lead time for OEM renewal parts. CMT was able to make precision measurements from the used parts, and then made improvements where possible. From these measurements and AutoCAD drawings, new material handling arms were accurately reproduced. Delivery time on these new parts was improved by 50 percent over previous orders from the OEM supplier.
