AC motors are manufactured with a laminated core iron. Each lamination is individually insulated to prevent circulating currents within the core iron that creates hot spots. CMT will core loss test a wound stator prior to burnouts of windings in a temperature controlled, monitored oven to remove varnish and allow for easier coil removal. A second core loss test is performed on the cleaned core iron to prevent hot spots that lessen insulation life.
